Olde Time Strongman Spectacular is Just One Week Away
The question I'm asked most about the upcoming Strongman Spectacular is 'what goes on there?' Most folks have never seen a true strongman in the classic sense. I mean, there are dudes at the gym with biceps the size of pumpkins, but are they strong? To answer is to get into a philosophical and physical debate. Yes, they are strong but what they lack is what's called 'functional strength'. A gym rat or body builder's goal is to build muscle...and believe me, that's not easy! A strongman's goal is to literally be strong. To be able to use and apply their strength to achieve major lifts, bends, breaks or to withstand major force upon them...possibly more difficult than a defined pectoral. The strongmen at next Sunday's show are not body builders. They won't be strutting up and down the stage all oiled showing off the symmetrical quads. They'll most likely be wearing sweats and a t-shirt. They're not competing for who's the strongest or most aligned. They are there to show the audience what the human body is capable of doing with a positive mental attitude and brut strength.Coney Island has been home to a number of strongmen in the last 50 years. The Mighty Atom and Joe Rollino being the two best known. The Olde Time Coney Island Strongman Spectacular is thrilled to be honoring the son of the Mighty Atom, Mike Greenstein for truly being the last remaining link to the 'olde time strongman'. Slim the Hammerman Farman, protege of the Mighty Atom will also be in attendance.See you in Coney!
